My students need lab safety goggles, gloves, aprons, dissection tool s and kits (including specimens) to perform the dissection.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day my students walk into my classroom knowing that they will learn something new. The skills they are building now will be useful in their experiences in college/careers after high school. Some students don't enjoy science, but by the year's end they will develop an appreciation for it.
My students appreciate hands-on learning, and enjoy performing labs.
Lab work and hands-on group activities are always requested by my students, because it allows them to gain a better understanding of the challenging concepts of biology, while also making class fun. In the beginning of the year, many of my students stated that they do not enjoy science; my goal for the year was to change my students' perspective on science and biology. A handful of my students get excited to learn about science, but many remain uninterested due to inexperience of the subject.
My Project
My students will be using the lab aprons, safety goggles, and lab gloves to perform the dissection in a safe and orderly way-especially when handling preserved specimens. The frog dissection biokits (with frog specimens) will be used for the students to conduct the frog dissections, while the dissection tools will allow the students to complete the dissection with ease, and create a real-life experience for the students to feel like they are scientists. Through the dissection, the students will be paired up and be able to identify the different body systems of the frog, and compare it to the human anatomy. They will learn proper lab safety techniques, and also gain the experience of being young scientists. Dissections are no longer in our school's curriculum, and the fact that they can be expensive and time consuming, students figure that they will not be able to do one. This lab would be performed in the last few weeks of school, as a learning enhancement activity.
Performing a dissection in high school biology will be a memory of their high school experience that they will never forget.
Many of my students have asked if we were going to perform a dissection, because many of them look forward to this experience in high school science classes. Through this experience, doors will open for students that may not have liked science or biology, to develop an appreciation for science or have them consider new career paths in science and medicine.
