My students need supplies, such as pocket charts, sentence strips, chart paper, a printer, Apple TV, document camera, and rug, to make our classroom an active, engaging, and visually accessible learning environment.
I am new to this district this year and am so excited to be working with my students! Coming from different neighborhoods, having various backgrounds, they all have a couple things in common--they are deaf/hard of hearing and they come to school with smiles on their faces. This year the district has established a self-contained class for third-fifth grade students who are deaf and hard of hearing meaning that we will be learning and growing together all day for all subjects.
My students are positive and eager to learn, and they deserve all the love, respect, attention and energy I can provide.
We will be focusing on building their language and literacy skills so that all doors can be open to them. They are so excited for this year and I'm hoping that by receiving these supplies the excitement and growth will continue all year long!
My Project
Our class theme this year is exploration and we plan to explore everything we can! Language and literacy, science, social studies-- you name it, we're covering it!
My students have been selected to be part of this new self-contained program because of their need for small group size, slower pacing, and individualized learning, but we can't do all of this without classroom supplies.
The supplies will allow me to differentiate for my students' individual learning styles and needs by creating centers within our classroom. My students are visual learners and the Apple TV will allow me to project my computer screen while standing in front of the class so I can continue to provide uninterrupted instruction via sign language. Similarly, a document camera would allow me to project a book for read alouds and shared reading, as well as documents for shared writing and content instruction. Receiving an easel and chart stand will help make learning come alive for my students through anchor charts we create and can refer back to. We also utilize Interactive Notebooks and having a printer would allow me to print graphic organizers and practice materials we can add to them. Currently, we have one small rug in our classroom and the rest is tile. Having a large rug in our class would allow us to sit together for morning meeting and activities while being spread out enough to have visual access to all participants (by sitting in a circle).
