My students need supplies such as markers, blank books, and sheet protectors to organize research for PYP Units. Students need items like non-fiction texts related to science and social studies for research.
I have twenty-three wonderful new third graders who are excited to be in a new grade. My students are from diverse backgrounds and many students speak a second language. My school is a neighborhood school in an urban district.
Recently, grades k-5 adopted the PYP - Primary Years Program from the International Baccalaureate Program (IB).
The IB program facilitates an accelerated curriculum with integrated science and social studies units. Our students are offered a fantastic education and school with very knowledgeable teachers.
My Project
This project relates to two academic units: Explorers and Animals. Explore It links best practices in literacy to social studies and to science. I want students to Explore It - meaning students have complete autonomy to gather their own ideas through research and organize their new learning in science and social studies.
Students will choose to create books, reports, posters, or oral presentations as they collect academic information.
Providing students with the adequate materials and choice creates purposeful readers and writers. My students need supplies such as markers and sheet protectors to organize research for PYP Units. My students also need non-fiction texts and comprehension cards related to science and social studies for research. The materials will make a difference in students' learning because it will help build their skills like decision making.
