Help me give my students a more efficient dramatic play center, that is more realistic to everyday life skills, and helps foster exploratory, and imaginative play in my classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is composed of 20 students ranging from ages 4 to 5-year old’s. Majority of my students come from low income families and communities. I believe that my job as a teacher is to provide my students a strong foundation for them to learn. I love to see the drive and look in my student’s eyes when it comes to learning new things every single day. I have learned that students at this age learn so much when they are able to be exposed to different things. I love my students like they are my own children and that’s why I want to give and expose them to the best learning environment they can have.
I have always wanted to be the teacher that gives students the hands-on experience when it comes to learning.
I believe that with hands-on approach students make a deeper connection, which helps them understand what is being taught.
Most of my students have diverse ways of learning and majority of my student haven’t been exposed to a strong foundation when it comes to education.
My Project
The materials that I’m requesting is to help my students by providing them with opportunities they are not able to experience outside of school. Dramatic play encourages children to put themselves in someone else's shoes. Such as role-playing helps them to improve their ability to do this in real life. They learn important social skills, such as empathy and language development.
Most importantly it promotes child empowerment.
It’s empowering because kids can choose and accept their own roles in the scenario, but also because dramatic play offers a haven for children to act out traumatic experiences. Including dramatic play time in a child’s schedule will provide a much-needed opportunity for them to get out of their comfort zone and let their imagination soar.
