Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are faced with the challenge of how to produce tangible copies of their typed work. They are eager and excited about typing reports and letters, but we do not have a printer that accommodates the need of our classroom. We need the ability to print in our classroom.
We are a Title I School on the outskirts of a large historic city.
Many of my students are receiving free or reduced lunch with several being 1st generation Americans. My students are eager to learn and they are also self-starters. They have the desire and the ability to produce great work. They simply need the means to showcase what they have learned. My students are curious about the world. Many have not ventured far from their communities to explore and visit what our neighboring city has to offer.
To help my students explore we want to participate in the Great Mail Race which would provide them the opportunity to learn from other students across America about their states and cities, but we need hard copies of letters to send to our sister states.
My Project
Imagine writing to other students across the nation and sharing information about your state, city or town. Imagine typing a letter and not being able to print a copy to share. My students are currently engaged in several projects that require letter writing and also multiple copies of the same information being shared with different people. We need a printer so that we can send out letters and share our city, county and state with other students. A printer will provide a resource that will benefit not only outside letter writing, but also help my student become better writers and editors. My students need the opportunity to see their finished products published and a printer will provide this tangible evidence to them.
A printer for my students will provide a very tangible piece of evidence to my students that the written word is important and that published it provides a lasting record of what was said.
