Exploration of Creativity through Visual Art: Basic Classroom Needs
Help me give my students colored pencils, broadline markers, glue sticks, watercolor paints, and paper so that they have access to essential materials to ensure the exploration of creativity in our visual arts classroom.
Each week about 575 students are able to experience and explore creativity in our Visual Arts classroom. Our students, ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade, have the opportunity to participate in a variety of art projects that also coincide with our core standards.
Basic art supplies are used on a daily basis in our classroom and give our students essential tools in their visual art education, which ultimately contributes to both academic and social success.
The use of different colors, in all mediums, allows for our students to express themselves non-verbally. The practice of visual arts promotes self-esteem and critical thinking skills. A strong arts program has been linked to an improvement in attendance, school retention, community involvement, and student engagement.
The ice cube trays will serve as sealable paint pallets for tempera liquid paint. Watercolor paints will be used almost every week for a variety of projects. Paper, glue sticks, colored pencils, and markers are used daily. Paper plates and cotton balls will be used for a "earth in space" bas relief piece of art. The cotton balls will represent the atmosphere and plate will be painted to look like our beautiful planet. All of these items have a home in our classroom and are continually well loved. These materials will be used in a variety of projects that explore the elements of art. Our students will create projects about space, life cycles, geography, shapes, form, art history, cultures from around the world just to name a few.
The excitement visual arts study brings to our students is astounding! Collaborating with teachers to integrate core standards allows for our students to explore what they're learning about in their classes in a purely creative way. The differentiation in how they learn allows me to foster their education to the fullest.
