We live out in the middle of nowhere. Our county is 65-70 miles long and less than 15 miles wide. School is a very large part of our children's social and academic world. All children in the Pre-school Initiative Program are "at risk" in one or more ways. Our children have special needs and are very special individuals.
It's exciting to be a part of a child's first school experience full of awe and wonder.
The growth is all encompassing.
My Project
Through exploration my children will be able to hear and picture the letters, sounds and numbers in their minds. With the alphabet sound tubs and magnetic pictures we'll be able to identify and sort our letters. This will lead into beginning sound skills. With the play dough, alphabet and number mats, my children will be able to see and feel the shapes of the letters and numbers. Hands on experiences enhance our ability to remember what we're learning. The alphabet books helps us visualize the pictures with the same beginning sounds. This is especially helpful for the children in the beginning stages of learning. The Alphabet Zoo activities are great to introduce and follow up our zoo animal unit.
