Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have built a strong community in my classroom. We call ourselves the "Fabulous Five" because we strive to be fabulous in all that we do in room five. The students feel safe to share and explore new ideas and are ready to express their ideas through integrated art. Last year, we became a visual and performing arts magnet school. However, this change occurred with no additional funding. This year, our budget was cut back further. Many of my students live below the poverty line and have limited access to extra curricular activities. My students deserve art supplies to allow them to create and express themselves.
My Project
My students have been learning about a variety of artists and artistic genres and are eager to get their hands dirty and create! We need consumable supplies such as paint, construction paper, glue and sealant in order to maintain our art program. Watercolor paper makes a world of difference when painting in this medium. My students are able to create their own masterpieces. Painting on actual canvas helps to build confidence and allows my students to view themselves as true artists. These supplies will provide my class with options to share their thoughts, connect their learning and express their feelings through their artwork.
