I teach in a Public Elementary School that serves students from K- Grade Five. It is my desire to create good readers through Science in my fourth grade classes. I teach two classes of Science to fifty students. I would like to provide non-fiction, high interest books that will actively engage all students in the reading process, while they learn Science content in a fun and exciting way. These books deal with weather, electricity, eco-systems, space, and sound. Many fantastic books that my students love are too hard for them. By providing students with books on their level will aid in their understanding of the concepts and allow them to read independently. I feel that literacy is a crucial component of scientific understanding. I want my students to understand how the science concepts they learn apply to current, real world events. With the high interest Science books, students will not only benefit this year but in years to come.
