My students are good kids for whom academic success at school may not come easy. The diversity of my classroom with English language learners, special education needs and at-risk backgrounds offers an opportunity to teach all learning styles. Celebrating the strengths of each family's background from immigrant parents, nontraditional families, or guardians who have not completed school, it is understood that everyone wants to feel confident and enjoy learning, regardless of background or current degree level. Most of my students struggled in school and are reluctant to try again and fail. They are disengaged from the learning process and profess they no longer care. Chronic absenteeism, frequent time in in-school suspension, lack of effort, work refusal, and even sleeping through or disrupting class are common.
All of these resources will help give my 6th graders more opportunities for hands-on experiences in the science lab and classroom.
A lot of times teachers have very engaging and fun labs for the students, but we are unable to give them this joy because lack of resources.
Headphones will be used to integrate technology into the classroom. Students can create their own videos or listen to other lessons independently to further their understanding of the topic. Gloves, digital scales, and other lab materials will help give students the materials they need to conduct a lab or other hands-on activities.
