Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an educator in a Title I school at the 100% poverty level, resources are not readily available for faculty to attend quality trainings. I consider myself a life-long learner who enjoys learning from other education professionals and I'm always looking for ways to become a stronger teacher.

Over the past 8 years, I have worked with students who are living at the severe poverty level.

Serving such a diverse group of students, I have learned that while scores are important, the way we love and care for our students is even more important. Teaching is my passion, but above all else, building strong relationships with my students is what I consider my calling. One barrier for several of my students is language. At a school where the majority of the students are Hispanic, we have to find creative ways to teach. For this reason, I am obtaining a Master's of Education in Teaching and Learning with a focus on teaching emergent bilinguals. In addition, there are a wide range of ability levels in my 5th grade classroom, from a 1st grade level, all the way to an 8th grade level. As you can imagine, this requires a variety of teaching techniques.

My Project

Because of the wide range of learning levels and styles in my diverse classroom, I am constantly researching new and creative ways to reach all of my students. This conference at the Ron Clark Academy will allow me to work side-by-side with professionals who serve a similar population as I do and give us the opportunity to learn from each other. Developed by Ron Clark, a seasoned and well respected teacher, this conference will provide me with a bank of strategies and best practices to put to use immediately in my classroom. The learning environment that Mr. Clark has created at his school, complete with arts integration and strategies that appeal to all learning styles, motivates students and increases student engagement. My goal is to implement these same practices and techniques in my classroom.

Attending this training has become a dream of mine since becoming an educator.

Not only do I respect Ron Clark as a fellow educator, but also as a human being. He has a passion and energy that is unmatched. Learning from him and his teachers would be an honor. I need this project funded so that I may obtain the lodging needed to participate in this life-changing event! This is your chance to help me fulfill a career goal that will enhance and enrich the lives of my students!
