My Students
My students are incredible third graders who live in a small community in northeast Iowa. Our school district is progressive, yet has a high population of low SES students. Each day my students come to school excited and ready to learn.
Students of every age and cultural background must be exposed to rich, diverse literature. While our community is not very diverse, educating students about the world around them is essential. It is my job to teach my students to be respectful and responsible citizens of this world.
My Project
As I have taught in many diverse communities, I know the rich educational experiences that come from personal stories. The community that I am currently teaching in is not very diverse and it is my job to bring that diversity into our classroom.
My students need to experience diversity through the rich stories about cultures from all over the world. These stories will better prepare them for the future, and help them to see that we are more alike than we are different. My students will be able to see the world through they eyes of the authors. Thank you!
