Help me give my students a new experience. I want to start a ukulele program at my school. Ukuleles are a fun instrument and a great way to get students to love music.
I teach 5th graders who are seeking enrichment. My students are compassionate and kind to everyone - even me who started with less than half a year to go. They are seeking new things and are hungry for new opportunities. These students are so intelligent and come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
My students seek answers in every new situation and strive for goodness in all things that they put their minds to.
Every day, I am amazed by these 10-11 year olds' capability to adapt and overcome everything in their way. They are so diverse in ability, background, and perception, but agree on teamwork and compassion.
My Project
The school I work at has a strong recorder program in elementary school. When they reach middle school, they lose that opportunity to learn a new instrument and, for many of them, recorders are not enough to kick start a love for the arts. Ukuleles are "trendy", but they are more than that. They are fun and challenging. They increase hand and eye coordination and create an ear for tune.
I want to give them more than a ukulele program, I want to give them a love of music that will last a lifetime.
This ukulele program will open many doors into both instrumental and vocal mastery. I'm hoping this will change the way some of my students view music.
