Help me give my students a new compact sensory table (ours is falling apart) and items to go in that sensory table!! This helps expand our sensory possibilities in the classroom!
I teach students with special needs in a self-contained classroom with a variety of developmental and physical delays. We have always tried to be very creative when it came to sensory opportunities for the success of our students. We have purchased rocking chairs and stools and inherited older items like a canvas swing and one wiggle cushion, but need hands on items that would give our students some new sensory experiences that can be connected to our academics as well!
My students use sensory exploration to regulate themselves and also give them specific opportunities to grow in academic area, such as math and reading.
Attention spans can be short in our classroom and physical limitations don’t give our students access to some of the typical toys that are present in regular education settings. Extra opportunities for my students to explore different sensory items and grow academically is invaluable!
We are creating a sensory corner and a new reading nook to provide multiple sensory opportunities for our students that they can access independently. Any opportunity to support the academic success and independence of our special need students would be amazing!!
My Project
My students are all about hands on with their special needs. Sensory items allow me to intrigue them and teach them academics at the same time! With these amazing sensory items, sensory table and items to fill it with you would be giving my students the opportunity to learn and grow through sensory integration! My students need opportunities to have information presented to them differently and a chance to be somewhat independent in doing so. A sensory table and items gives them that opportunity and can be used throughout the year across all themes! Hunting for letters or numbers and working together to find different items or fill containers will he to grow our social skills along with academic skills!
