This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in science class the last few years have been largely lecture with very little hands on labs. For the first time we have been given a space to turn into a science lab, but have very little in the way of demonstrative and other lab materials. We need your help!

The school is an urban school in the heart of a large city.

The students are middle school aged and don't have a lot of the opportunities that they deserve. Many of the larger schools in the district have the supplies and tools they need but unfortunately we do not. My students are desperate for the chance to do some of the labs and have some of the equipment to allow the science to come alive.

My Project

The Van de Graffe generator will allow us to do a variety of static electricity and magnetism experiments. Including allowing the students to visualize a magnetic field, see the transference of elections and understand how lightening is generated and discharged. The ability to engage the students in this manner will allow for more meaningful discussions, higher level of participation and increase student interest/engagement.

This project will make a huge difference in the students understanding of electricity and magnetism.

It will give the students the opportunity to fall in love with science and possibly pursue future goals in science.
