Experience Being a Scientist!

My students need Chromebooks and management consoles to use PASCO sensors and data analysis. This improves their digital literacy while getting them fired up about a STEM future.

My Students

My 8th Grade students are curious and ready for action in the Science classroom. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) push students to be inquisitive critical thinkers who can design models and experiment with materials to better think about our world through a technical lens.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and work in groups almost every day.

Developing communication and use of academic language is a goal that we work on throughout the year. The more that students communicate what they are learning, the better they are able to comprehend and apply scientific concepts.

My Project

My students actively engage in Science discovery. I am one of the three 8th grade teachers in my department. Our Science NGSS curriculum connects students directly to STEM concepts. Their experience is enhanced by using PASCO sensors and data analysis. But this technology requires Chromebooks for data display and manipulation.

Imagine the excitement of middle school students feeling like real scientists.

Students gain skills that pertain to a real lab setting and learn to use data as evidence to communicate their findings.

Additionally, we have to purchase a license to use each Chromebook and these devices are needed to give my students daily access to Google Classroom. This valuable resource enables students to share their work easily, gather feedback from peers and teachers, conduct online research, produce media presentations, access assignments, pursue lessons at their own pace and take online exams.

Our students are growing up in an increasingly technologically and scientifically advanced world. Scientific literacy enhances their chance to succeed. Our Science department works to prepare our students for a future in a STEM field. We also aim to provide equal access to the course content and resources. Additional Chromebooks are necessary to make this possible.

Thank you for your support and playing a part in bringing Science alive for my students!
