My students are amazing! They are a group of 32 fabulous little people that come in and out of my room all day getting support in reading, writing and math. They all have disabilities that impact the way they learn. Many have ADHD or Specific Learning Disability and some have emotional disturbance or Autism. A lot of them have issues in their homes that also impact their school success.
I always tell my students that their brains are wired differently than others, and that just means they learn in a different way, but they can still learn and do amazing things.
I also tell them that they are special and they all have strengths and our differences are never an excuse for not trying our best and working hard. They have really embraced having a growth mindset and they are proud of the learners they have become. I am doubly proud of them and want to make sure they have everything I can give them to support their success!
My Project
My students struggle with reading. So many of them feel that reading is not fun or they believe the reason we read is to get better at reading.
I want to instill a love of reading in all my students.
A rich classroom library will continue to encourage them to independently pick up a book.
These books have been carefully chosen based on my students' interests. There are choose your own adventure books and some of their favorite authors as well!
