This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class of second grade deaf students LOVES the two refurbished computers in our room. But the computers are old and do not have enough memory to install educational yet fun programs for the children to access. My room is one of the classrooms at Kinzie that is not wired to the internet so it is difficult to access more useable programs for the kids to use during center time or bonus times when the children have completed their work early or when I am working with one or two students at a time and allow the others to use the computers. Even though I have only six students...it is VERY difficult to get seven year olds, who do not have computers at home, to share computer time with two partners. I have a donated monitor, keyboard and mouse. The processor that was with the monitor died. The kids (and I) would be very grateful if someone were to fund my request for a processor. My six second grade deaf students are bussed from many neighborhoods of the city even though our school is located in a solidly middle-class neighborhood. My students do not have computer access at home and they do LOVE using our two classroom computers. Computer technology has opened new doors for the deaf adult population and I feel it is very important for these young deaf children to be able to develop computer skills commensurate with their age and functioning levels.
