My students need sound games and sorting boards, alphabet and word work folder games, and tracing letters to enhance their reading opportunities. Shelves provide storage.
Learning to read can be a giant mystery for many students. Help my students have a better opportunity to learn to read by providing them with multiple materials for learning! Through these visual and colorful games, I can teach my students basic skills.
My students come from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Our school is a poverty school, because of the high percentage of students on free or reduced lunch. My students attend kindergarten, first, and second grade. They are energetic and eager learners ready to take on the task of reading! These students find reading to be a daunting task, so having a variety of options for practice helps to keep their interest alive. These students also work with me in small groups. This will provide extra exposure and teacher attention to aid in learning to read. Their school is a safe and caring place where expectations for learning are high.
My Project
My students are the types of learners who need to practice, practice, and practice!! These students are often behind in their reading when they come to me, so the more skill practice and time spent on reading, the better chance they will have of retaining the information. These reading, alphabet, and sound/word games will allow students to have a wide variety of practice on beginning reading skills.
After they have been taught how to use these games properly, students will be able to play games individually while I work with other group members on other skill deficits. These games will expose these struggling readers to more reading opportunities. The opportunities children have to read, the better readers they will become! It is my goal for all of my students to learn to read on grade level so they can use that skill as they grow!
My students are struggling readers.
This project is so important, because reading is the basis for learning. Students need to master reading skills early, so they can focus their attention on the content of what they learn in later years. If I can catch these students while they are young, and provide them with basic reading skills they can use throughout their school years, perhaps they will have better success at school and less frustration with their learning.
