Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade students and I live in a beautiful Southern California coastal city where an increasing number of families within our district are falling into the lower economic levels. Many families find it more and more challenging to spend quality time with their children after demanding work schedules.
Despite the hardships and stress, my children arrive at school with a positive attitude and a thirst for new knowledge.
Their eager, smiling faces encourage me every day to give them experiences and opportunities that will last their lifetime. We encourage each other to be the best we can be by learning cooperation, integrity, respect, responsibility, and independence.
My Project
My students love holding and reading books to themselves during our Read-to-Self portion of the day. More and more of them are asking me for high-interest non-fiction books because they love to learn about animals and people in our country's history.
These books will expand my current classroom library which will allow everyone in my class to access more high-interest non-fiction books at their own reading level.
Learning about some of the people who shaped our country or made positive impacts on others, and discovering the life cycle of some amazing creatures will surely peak the interest of my students. These books may also influence my students' mind-set toward growing and becoming their best selves in a community where leadership and compassion prevail.
