My students are ready and willing to learn. They each come into the classroom with open minds, just ready to have them filled with the needed content each day. They are eager learners who are just waiting to be given the opportunities to grow their knowledge.
Many of my students come from low-income families that cannot provide them with extra educational resources and opportunities for learning.
That is where I come in. In my classroom, we are all equal learners. The playing field is leveled so that each student can grow to his/her own potential.
For students to be lifelong learners, they must be able to not only read but to also comprehend. Comprehension is best accomplished with a well developed vocabulary.
Students who have larger vocabularies are better readers, writers, and communicators.
We need a subscription to Flocabulary, workbooks to focus vocabulary teaching, and BrainPop to engage students in all content areas, will allow me as the teacher to provide several avenues of learning.
Students will be able to sing and dance to songs on Flocabulary all the while learning new vocabulary. They will problem solve as they help Tim and Moby answer questions in all content areas on Brain Pop. They will break down new words to gain a deeper meaning of words they will encounter everyday.
Students will be able to not only read and understand new vocabulary words, but also apply them to their writings and speech. True learning is accomplish when students are able to use their new found knowledge in their daily lives. Expanding a child's vocabulary is truly expanding his/her horizons!
