Help me give my students access to experience other cultures, worlds, and concepts beyond their own. We can bridge the gap between their experiences and those of others through the wonderful world of literature!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are the best! I am sure everyone says that, but let me tell you why they actually are. My classroom is 4th grade ELA (Reading, English, Writing, etc.). We have a differentiated classroom; meaning my students range from students' special needs to gifted. We all learn together and in our classroom we believe that everyone can learn the same thing with a little help! Our class is located in a Title I school, and we have learned to do a lot with a little. My student population is of low income and primarily multi-children families. We do not often have the daily supplies we need, let alone the things that we need to grow and expand the way we learn.
Our school and community do not have the funds to help our classroom personally, but we all agree that should not stop us from trying to create the best learning environment possible for our class!
Our class loves learning and growing; whether that be working in our school garden, filming plays on our iPads, reading with flashlights, or tabletop writing! We recently switched to flexible seating and are using technology to bridge our classroom learning!
My Project
Our school is a Title I school, as such most of my students come from low-income households. Many of them are raised by single parents or grandparents. Sadly most of my students do not get the opportunities and experiences that they deserve. Moreover, many do not get the experiences they need to understand the material taught in the classroom. Due to their socioeconomic status, many do not get to broaden their understanding of the world beyond their neighborhood. We are asking for donations for books that will afford my students the opportunity to experience other cultures and environments. A book is wonderful thing, it can teach you about others, take you across the world and beyond, build background knowledge of concepts never experienced, and give you knowledge you never imagined! Help my students get access to a broader understanding and experience the world beyond their neighborhood!
