This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I strive to show my students daily that they can be anything they want to be and can accomplish anything with a little bit of hard work!
Don't tell me; show me.
This is an expression that you'll hear often in my classroom not only from myself but from my students. It has various meanings behind it, but the one way you see it shown in my classroom the most is how my students have come together over the school year and created a family of Super Stars! We strive to build a positive, loving classroom daily and that little reminder goes a long way in helping that process.
My Project
Our classroom is small and not always functional in terms of storage or space but with your help we can expand what we have! The new communication center will allow students to have a place for their daily work to go home as well as a place to turn in their work. This will open a large amount of space in our meeting area which will look even better with the addition of the letter carpet squares. I'm also requesting an easel that will be placed in our meeting space to house materials we use on a daily basis on the carpet and be a reference point for students during phonics instruction in addition to writing lessons and read-alouds.
My students enjoy when they get to take their creativity and tie it into a current classroom assignment but being part of a Title I school can make it difficult to get materials such as construction paper, glue sticks, and markers in a timely manner.
Some of these basic classroom necessitates are a must when we proudly display our work in the hallways for others to admire.
My students love being able to work around the classroom using different materials and with the addition of the items we are requesting, it will take that learning to the next level, making our classroom an effective plus efficient learning space!
