Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
M.I. is a Title I school with high rates of economically disadvantaged and at-risk students. Additionally, our bilingual program students largely come from low-income, single-parent homes where families are financially unable to provide their children with the basic supplies they need to successful in today academic environment. Most of my students are eager to learn but lack the economic resources to buy school supplies which make it difficult for them to transition into a mainstream classroom. Since a family socioeconomic status and education level influence the academic achievement of students providing bilingual students with basic supplies can help level the plain field of academic success.
My Project
When students have the basic tools to learn and succeed in the classroom their behavior, grades , attendance and even their self esteem improve. By supplying students with these basic tools we are investing in our most valuable asset- our children who will be our future employees, leaders and teachers. Something as simple as a glue stick , a notebook or a pencil can impact the lives of these students in a tangible and intangible way. Being able to provide supplies for every child to have tools for every new idea, invention and formula that their minds can think up open the door for learning.
