Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a residential, mental health facility for a variety of mental health problems. They also come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds as well as a wide range of learning abilities and levels. Although they are going through rough periods in their lives, they still come to class eager to learn.
To see the improvements in their overall mental health that they make as well as in their education in the short time they are with me is pretty rewarding.
My Project
The books I have chosen for this project are ones that I know my kids have enjoyed in the past. Our class sets of "The Thief of Always" and "Percy Jackson" have seen better days. They look like they've been through years and years of classes because they have!
These books will allow my students and I to read high-interest content independently and in a group setting.
The Eyewitness books from one of my last projects have been so successful at capturing my kids' interests', that I thought I would expand our library and cast an even wider net to catch their interests.
