My students need a classroom library that engages them meaningfully and purposefully, helping expand their knowledge base, reading skills, self-understanding, and world view.
My students are important, curious, deserving, and academically diverse. The community in which they live is a thriving, rural-suburban town. They have so much enthusiasm and interest in learning and seek to understand the world beyond their small farming town.
My privilege as their grade 6 English Language Arts teacher is to foster their curiosity and provide them with opportunities that allow them to fulfill their voracious curiosity and interest in life.
There is nothing like finding that books that inspire and encourage our children to learn, and then motivate them to continue on their own personal journey of figuring out who they are as people.
All children deserve access to learning that allows them to become the best human beings that they can be. My students are certainly no exception.
My Project
Books open the doors for children to understand worlds that are beyond their personal experience. They allow children to explore situations and information to which they may not otherwise have access. Both fiction and non-fiction materials provide students with opportunities to expand their world and enhance their understanding of topics both brand-new and familiar. A full, rich classroom library is essential in any classroom, but particularly in a Language Arts classroom where we depend on books to take us to worlds and provide us with information that we can only reach through text.
A rich, diverse variety of materials is essential in facilitating students to reach their full potential as people.
Through consistent, frequent access of our classroom library, students are given the opportunity to understand others, gain information, think deeply about themselves, and develop relationships with others, not to mention increase their reading proficiency through high-interest books that speak to their age level and generation.
