My Students
We live in rural Maine with limited resources and a high level of poverty. The students in our school need to be supported to succeed academically and find how they best learn. I teach junior high level mathematics in a small school. My students enjoy the flexibility of learning in small group environments and with teachers who look after not only their academic needs but their needs as a whole. The more we encourage our students to succeed academically, the more they will thrive throughout their lives.
My Project
I work in a school that has a high poverty rate. One of the largest struggles is the students’ limited life experiences.
With a VR headset set up we can take our students places they could only ever dream of seeing.
VR brings the world into the classroom and provides students with the “hands on” experience of being there and seeing with their own eyes. For a school with limited resources in a poor town these types of alternate experiences are going to be vital to expanding their horizons. When we expand their world view, we help them to dream big.
