Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Unique, energetic, determined and curious are just a few words to describe my 4th graders. Most of my students have many things going on in their lives that could and do prevent them from learning. Helping students overcome those outside obstacles, even if it is just for a day or an hour is amazing to see. Some of these students have been through more tragedy and loss than most of us will see in a lifetime. Their willingness to push forward and with help thrive is inspiring.
My Project
This year science has been integrated back into the classroom again. In previous years it has been a special that students go to every other week. With science being in the classroom now there are limited supplies for students to use. This means less hands on activities and interesting texts to use.
Students need more hands-on science experiences and interesting texts to explore!
This project will help fund some of these hands on materials that can be used in our science lessons to provide students with experiences that will really help concepts and ideas stick. Our 4th graders definitely excel when they get to do hands on activities and complete experiments and investigations. Some thing students will be able to explore include solar power in our unit on energy as well as magnets and electrical circuits. They will use the weather kit to get some hands on experience with some weather tools, how to use them and how to read them. With the STEM classroom bundle students will get a chance to problem solve together and investigate how different things work!
It is my hope that we can start getting students more excited about science through more hands on science experiments and explorations! Our first project was fully funded to get students more engaging texts to learn from for science. Now, we are looking to get more hands on materials for experiments and investigations!
