Do you remember the first time someone believed in you? Everyday our kids are told they aren't good enough and that they don't deserve nice things because they will never amount to anything in life. I want to show these kids that with hard work they can and will succeed.
We are an intercity school with a population of 50.2% Hispanic, 34.7% African American, 7.6% Multiracial, 6.8% Caucasian, and .5% Asian.
81.6% of our school receives free lunch, 5.4% receives reduced lunch, and only 13% pay for lunch. My students do not have the advantages that the other schools have in this area. Many of our students do not have computers at home, let alone internet access. We have a library in the neighborhood, but many parents do not feel safe allowing their children to walk to the library due to fear. Most come from single parent homes, and many are "latch key kids" so asking an adult for help with a project or a ride to the library is not possible. Please help them have the technology needed to increase their love for learning.
My Project
A crucial step in the scientific method is research. You need to know what has been done previously and what results were found, so that you can dive deeper into the subject. By adding classroom iPads my students would have the internet at their finger tips. They could research any questions that would arise during experiments. They could even publish their own findings, giving them more pride in their work. These students would be able to ask deeper questions and think more in-depth throughout class. Adding iPads to this classroom would give these students another look at the material with amazing applications to help them learn.
These iPads will be used with each and every project that we do!
It is not something that will be used once and pushed to the back of the cabinet. There are many applications that can be used for each and every aspect of science. You can put together different chemical equations and see what reaction would happen, without the dangers of it happening in the classroom. Please help these students experience in-depth learning.
