Help me give my students models of the internal parts of animals that will be studied throughout the year! We also are requesting various resources to extend learning in language, mathematics. and cultural studies.
My students are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders that are learning in a Montessori environment. They are self motivated learners who are eager to get their hands on good quality materials to learn concepts. The students use a work plan and progress in their education at their own pace. They learn by being introduced to concepts with concrete experiences and gradually move to more abstract work.
By learning in an environment that promotes practical life skills, incorporates materials that are aesthetically pleasing, and provides rich learning materials, these students are excited about learning and try hard to do their best so that they can move forward to the next lesson and material.
My Project
As my classroom expands to include third-grade students we are requesting models of the internal parts of animals that we will study throughout the year. This will give students models to draw, label, and define the internal parts of amphibians, reptiles, and mammals. This project will also provide students with expanded learning opportunities to build upon their understanding of concepts taught such as grammar, cultural studies, and mathematics.
With such diverse learners on various levels of development and cognition, these materials will enhance learning beyond attaining information from reading cards but by providing materials to develop concepts in a deeper and richer experience.
Students will use models and materials requested to learn at the level in which they can cognitively understand concepts. In our classroom, often times we learn concepts based on the standards of higher grade levels such as 4th and 5th grade. In providing higher level information students can develop an understanding of zoology beyond just naming animals but studying the internal parts and their functions.
In grammar, students are learning concepts that are taught one to two grade levels above their grade level, therefore these materials will enhance the learning environment as first graders study parts of speech including interjections, synonyms, antonyms, homographs, and punctuation. The books I am requesting will give students extensions from the lessons to reinforce the concepts of these parts of speech.
