Help me give my students more flexible seating in my classroom with these exercise bike chairs for their high tables. These would give my students with ADHD, Autism and anxiety a sensory outlet for their energy.
My name is Abby Faulkenberry, and I am a Special Education Resource teacher in a rural high school in South Carolina. I currently teach 35 9th-12th grade students with a variety of disabilities. I have students with learning disabilities in reading, math, and writing, ADHD, speech language impairments, autism, and emotional disabilities.
My students work hard and do not let their disabilities stop them from being successful and graduating from high school.
They come to school, on most days (teenagers!), with positive attitudes and smiles on their faces. They enjoy having a space, my classroom, to come to during one period a day and get the assistance they need, while also having a comfortable place to work on their assignments for the day. My goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment for my students.
My Project
I am a high school special education teacher in Lancaster, SC. I teach 35 students with various disabilities. I teach students with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, and PTSD. I am starting this project with the hope of providing my high school special education students with other options of flexible seating throughout my classroom. These exercise bike chairs though expensive, are worth every penny!
These seats will give my students with ADHD, autism and anxiety an outlet for their energy, restlessness, and sensory needs.
These seats will be put at a high top table that I purchased previously with my own money and will be used daily! I know that my students will love these chairs and it will give them a much needed outlet while in the classroom.
