My Students

My class consists of 20 eight-year-olds who are very different learners.

They enjoy being engaged in activities that are hands-on and the ability to move throughout the room while learning.

I allow them the opportunity to move to a “just right spot,” a spot in the classroom that works best for them to own their own learning. Many of them find this freedom to be a benefit to their learning experiences. Watching them move around the room is priceless.

My Project

Sitting in hard, upright chairs is not exciting. Children spend most of their day in school. To engage students in learning, I feel choice is really important, and flexible seating is part of that choice. I encourage my students to "own their own learning." They are allowed to move around the room and find a just-right spot that works best for them.

The trouble I see in my room is that they currently can sit on the floor or on a hard chair.

The stools in my cart will offer them an additional place to sit and, with that, some movement. This will be very valuable to all learners but especially those who have trouble sitting still.
