My students need 8 Leap Frog TAG School Reading System pens to encourage a love of reading and reinforce early literacy skills.

My class of 23 diverse, urban kindergarten students live below the poverty line, are English language learners, and have not attended preschool. They love to look at the books in our classroom library, but are often frustrated by their inability to understand the story on their own.

I am writing this grant for a class set of 8 LEAP frog TAG readers, headphones, software, and stories that will enable my students to experience and interact with stories like The Cat in the Hat, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and the Little Engine that Could in an independent, exciting way. This system will also provide a wonderful opportunity to practice fluent English, answer standards based challenge questions and play comprehension games.

I plan to use these interactive pens and headphones throughout the day and especially during morning centers when the parents will participate with their students and learn how to enrich home reading experiences.
