My students are hardworking Language Learners who are busy learning to speak, read, and write in English, their second language. Some of their native languages include Spanish, Vietnamese, Italian, Punjabi, and Tigrinya. They range in grade level from kindergarten thru second grade. I have been working with most of them for three years.
They get so excited when they write about their friends and families.
This summer we had fun learning about their native cultures. They created art projects, dances, and journals about their native countries. It is such a joy to see them bubble over with excitement sharing something they love with others.
This chrome book will give my lower income ELL's exciting opportunities to practice phonic's based skills on educational apps like Lexia, to learn computer navigation skills for future education, or to augment their curriculum by researching special topics like fascinating facts about space. So many of these students do not have this access at home.
By sharing images of Folklorico Dancers, the Italian Alps, or the people of Eritrea, we are sharing glimpses into our cultures and ourselves with one another.
With English Language Learners, "a picture if worth a thousand words."This Chromebook will help my students have a window into the world.
