This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars attend a Title I school with about 80% receive free or reduced cost lunch. My scholars are very energetic and excited to learn, however, our resources are limited. Due to their energetic nature, I would like to give them less paper and pencil assignments and more hands-on learning. These first graders will be our society's future and I want to prepare them for the best future possible. I have diverse students of all levels and abilities in my classroom. They are smart, kind, and motivated scholars who deserve the best education possible.
My Project
These manipulatives will help students with reading and math skills during center time. The reading manipulatives will help with comprehension and phonics. More help is needed with phonics as I have some lower learners that need help with phonemic awareness to get them ready to read. During center time, which is in small groups, the manipulatives will help see what they need help with. I have First-graders who are struggling with math basic learning skills. I am requesting centers and independent activities that reinforce basic math skills. We use a lot of card stock to print with. It helps with the durability of the learning materials that are handles by both the students and teachers daily. We laminate our daily picture schedules, file folder tasks, letters, instructional materials and everything in between.
