This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library or classroom library to check out high-quality books. Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the classroom library and if they can be first to check out these books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our school.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
