Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"If the world seems cold to you, kindle fires to warm it," Lucy Larcom said. Since the first day of school, my scholars have loved those around them each and every day. They have taken ownership of the classroom and have lived up to the expectation of excellence!

My students attend a Title I school in Georgia and have many barriers on their journey to an incredible education.

They walk into the classroom everyday ready to grow their brains and leave each afternoon eager for the next day to come so that they can learn. They find learning fun and are eager to discover new things. They are most eager to learn about the things they didn't know they didn't know. My students are hungry to improve their reading skills and believe that literacy is the key to their education. They showed me this on the very first day, when all they wanted was to sit on the rug and listen to stories, read to each other, and read for themselves. I was most impressed when their books traveled with them to the lunch room. Nothing means more to them than the ability to read, especially at levels above their own!

My Project

My scholars understand the importance of their education. They deserve resources that will help them to become the best readers and mathematicians possible. The reading activities, learning centers and books will allow my scholars to build their language and early reading skills. The math and science activity centers will allow my scholars to engage with math and understand how to apply various math skills, like counting, numbers, etc. The wireless printer will allow my scholars to engage with activities and applications on the iPad and print evidence of their success to share with family and friends. These materials will get our year started out right with success being the only option.

The parents of my scholars desire for their children to be avid readers and mathematicians.

Their parents do their best, but as adults proficient in Spanish and English being a second language, the barriers and obstacles that stand in their way are big. Every day their scholars walk into the classroom and know that their education not only improves their lives, but their families. It's not just about them; it's about their entire community.
