Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 80% of our students receiving free lunch. Many of our students are English Language Learners. Our class has been placed on a new school campus and we are looking to refill the classroom with supplies and materials we no longer have.
The students in my class are all on the moderate-to-severe autism spectrum.
Special education students require additional supports and modifications which require more teaching materials. We also lost our art program this school year.
My Project
These art supplies with provide opportunities to my students that they no longer have. Our art program was cut from our district and classroom teachers are now having to provide these opportunities. My class loves to work with their hands and create meaningful projects. My class showed a great interest in ceramics and wanted to work within class to make pieces to take home.
My class also expressed wanting to do projects they normally don't have the opportunity to do at home.
We thought it would be fun to learn sewing skills to create stuffed animals or raise butterflies to release in the wild.
