The students that come into my classroom are from all different walks of life. They speak different languages and come from different countries. Usually, coming into my class is their first experience with American culture and sometimes even their first experience with school in general.
Because of their diverse backgrounds, the students that come into my class have a lot to learn when they walk through my door.
They are not only learning what is taught in the third grade, but they are also learning how to speak English. Each of these tasks are difficult by themselves; put them together and you have a whole new learning challenge. The students still show up every day ready to learn and ready to push through the struggle!
My Project
Technology is an integral part of education these days. Students are required to take district and state assessments on computers and laptops. Most of the time, students are using tablets and touch screens at home, so then when they come to school, they are unsure how to navigate a desktop computer or laptop.
My school provides a few desktop computers, but they are old, slow and often break.
Chromebooks would allow us to keep on learning even when the older technology isn't working that day. This would also allow me to have more students using computers every day for research projects, educational games in reading, math and science.
