Help me give my students the opportunity to have resources that will help create tools to use inside and outside the classroom, like laminated sight word and addition cards, to increase students' literacy and math abilities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our first-grade class consists of a huge population of transient students along with students who are from low-income communities where they lack the tools at home and in our classroom to help with their academics. Students face challenges such as lack of sleep which results in their inability to stay awake in class, not receiving a meal since leaving school, having inconsistent attendance either by arriving after breakfast or not at all, and they lack the motivation and encouragement needed to be successful academically.
Can you imagine a 6 and 7 year old showing perseverance to overcome challenges and obstacles just to attend school each day?
However, the way our first-grade student’s defy these challenges is what makes them so admirable and commendable. Despite their circumstances, I love how the students live by our school motto, “we are CREW, not passengers,” which means we help and support each other to push through with any situation, whether at school, home, or anywhere. In our classroom, we engage in activities that teaches students to empathize, encourage, and inspire each other to never give up, regardless of any circumstance!
Majority of our students do not have access to resources, like internet access at home. With our school initiating new literacy programs, such as Lexia and MyON, having headsets with microphones would be a tremendous asset to our classroom! Since the world we live in is geared towards 21st century technology, I would love for my students to have the opportunity to engage and use apps and websites such as MobyMax and TutorMate. Both websites help increase student's growth in literacy and math, based on common core standards.
“You just can’t beat the person who never gives up” –Babe Ruth.
I want to continue encouraging and teaching my students that giving up is not an option, despite any circumstance. By donating to our classroom, you would help supply additional resources, such as the dry erase pockets with markers, to help students practice reading and writing, which is where students demonstrate the most struggle. Additionally, the Laminator and the Hole Puncher, would help students to create resources to use at home, such as sight word and vocabulary cards, to increase reading comprehension. Plus, students can also create addition and subtraction cards, up to 20, to practice skills at home. The bonus reward is that our students will have the chance to engage with their parents and other family members to help bridge the academic gap between school and home. The snacks are an additional request to use as an incentive for motivational support with learning, persevering, and striving for academic success. With your donations, you are helping 20 students to continue to face daily challenges with knowing that someone cares! Will you be the one to make a donation that will have an everlasting and remarkable impact on my students' academic journey?
