Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My engineering students are intelligent and enthusiastic, and most close a gap which is inconceivably wide. Over 40% of whom are English language learners, they are empowered by universally accessible curricula steeped in STEM. All of my students are part of the Engineering Pathway leading to internships and college opportunities.
And my students love Project Based Learning!
They flourish in a student-centered classroom, filled with activities based on the engineering process. They work independently and collaborative to come up with solutions to real-world problems.
My Project
My 10th and 11th grade students are so patient! All 170 of them have created wonderful and innovative designs that are just waiting in the computer queue to get printed. Our problem is that we only have one 3D printer in our studio.
It would to have a bank of 3D printers so students can experience their designs coming to life!
For now, we will settle for two. These engineering students have been using the engineering process to create solutions to real-world problems. After they create concept sketches, and draw their concepts using computer-aided-design (CAD), the next step is to 3D print their prototypes. The average print job takes 2 hours. That is a long wait time for 170 students and for me. Thank you for considering our engineering studio at LHS!
