I am a first-year teacher who has been working with my school's STEM Committee to make a difference to all students in our K-6 school. Our students come from diverse backgrounds in Pennsylvania. Most of our students come from low-income households and are thankful for having the opportunity to come to school.
Our elementary school has over 650 wonderful students and we are so fortunate to be in such a wonderful learning environment!
Since incorporating STEM into our school curriculum, we have seen a drastic change in student behavior. Students are excited to overcome challenges and to strengthen their learning while working with others. To encourage the growth of these behaviors, our committee would like to finish our school's Makerspace. In order to have our "finished product", we need materials to create our LEGO Binders for students to have on the go and a place to store LEGOs for our school LEGO BOARD.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference in my students learning. Not only will it encourage students to use the 4 C's of STEM- creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, but it will be an incentive to want to learn.
A lot of students in my school are kinesthetic learners- they learn by physically doing an activity.
So it is important to accommodate all learners, and this is a great way to do so. It will allow them to have an easy accessible way to take LEGOs back to their classrooms.
Our finished product will be 12 LEGO binders. Each binder will have a LEGO plate bonded to it. Attached to the binder rings will be a pencil case to store the LEGOs. Students will be able to build on the LEGO plate and will have easy access to LEGOs. These binders will have it all!
Some of the materials listed, will also be utilized for our school LEGO Board. We need a home for our LEGOs and the large LEGO Bricks are sure to do the job! This will be an easy and accessible way to store LEGOs for all to use.
Everything is awesome at school, but can be even better with LEGOs!
