This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a community, our school serves many marginalized families in North Minneapolis. Over 90% of all students receive free or reduced price lunch. My students come from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Our classroom is inclusive and comprised of English Language Learners, students receiving Special Education services, students with autism, and more. My students are active and resilient. They are innovative and have learned to survive on few resources. My students come to school eager and excited about learning. It's important to me that every student entering my classroom feels welcomed and nurtured by the learning environment.
My Project
The materials I am requesting for this project will help my students be organized and keep our classroom clean. At the beginning the year, my student learn how to take care of our classroom. It allows students to learn how to share our space and materials. The chair pockets will give my students a place to keep their folder and notebooks for tidy space. The storage containers will be used to keep out math and literacy centers organized.
Having a clean and organized classroom creates a calm and safe learning environment.
It also teaches students routine and accountability in our learning community.
