Living in a low income/high poverty area, my students often do not have the support at home to make learning easy for them. They aren't given the experiences that most child have. Most haven't traveled to areas outside of their city. Some go home after school to stay with family members, friends, or even friends of friends. My students' families work hard to make ends meet, often at the expense of good, old-fashioned quality time.
I work in a Title 1 school where the students and their families, along with their successes, are a priority.
My students work extremely hard, each and every day. They come to school with smiling faces and stories to tell. Everyone wants to share the things that are going on in their lives.
Learning stations are an integral part of our day. They allow students time for socialization, which will make them better writers. Better writers make better readers, and better readers make working, intelligent citizens.
Organization is key in a classroom.
These shelving units will enable my students to return all classroom items back to their original places.
Currently, the classroom is only equipped with two shelving units, which is only enough storage for one learning station. If my students have a place to gather items and then return them to their correct places, we will have a classroom that runs smoothly and efficiently, thus allowing us for more instructional time.
