Hello! I am a Third Grade teacher in Oklahoma. I teach a very diverse class in an area where almost all of our economically disadvantaged students qualify for free or reduced meals. Through all of our diversity, we all share one common love--the love for reading and learning.
Unfortunately, we have no place to put our library books in our classroom. The students' desks are filled with textbooks, so they have to stack their library books on their desks. Between the school library, classroom library, and books brought from home, we end up with 4-6 books stacked on our desks, and no room left to work. So, unfortunately, the books get moved from desk to floor and back to desks many times during the day. We have tried alternatives--group tubs, putting our books in our desks (they get bent up and torn)--and nothing seems to work.
I am asking for 25 bags from Lakeshore Learning to hang on the backs of our chairs. We can place our library books in the bags and keep our work areas free for, well, working! Twenty of the bags will be for individual desks and the five extra will be used for our intensive reading groups to keep our books, journals, and other projects stored in.
Your donation will help give these students an appropriate work area while also reinforcing the need for organization in our daily lives. Each student having an individual chair bag will be the answer we need to our current classroom dilemma. Only with your help can we get this situation "straightened out." If you help fund this project, the bags will be well taken care of and used for many years to come.
