Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Books that feature POC help to promote diversity and representation in literature. This is important because it helps students see themselves reflected in the stories they read, and it can also help students develop empathy and understanding for others who may have different experiences than their own. By exposing my students to different cultures and perspectives, they can learn about and appreciate the differences and similarities that exist between different communities. Books that feature POC can also help combat racism and bias by providing accurate and positive representations of people from different backgrounds.
Reading books that feature POC will allow students to dream big because our students cannot be what they cannot see.
Our library has to be filled with characters that look like them.
