My students are special education students of all levels who have difficulty communicating. Some have receptive and expressive language difficulties, some have articulation difficulties, some have social language difficulties, and some have a combination or all of the above.
"Communication is the essence of human life" (Janice Light).
My students range in age from elementary students in kindergarten to fifth grade to high school students. They come from all walks of life. Many come from low socio-economic backgrounds and some are English language learners. They are all hard-working and dedicated to improving their communication skills.
My Project
I am a new speech and language pathologist. Items like the map and calendar are needed for my room to help enhance the students' lessons. Other items, such as Bananagrams and Bingo Parts of Speech, are fun ways for my students to build their language skills. Games, such as Apples to Apples and Guess Who, help with social skills and turn taking as well as building language skills. I'd love some items, like the Idioms Chart and Parts of Speech Posters, to add some color to my room while also teaching my students about various aspects of language. The books I'm asking for will help enhance my lessons. Specific learning outcomes for my students include increasing expressive and receptive language skills to be able to communicate more effectively in the classroom, improving social skills to communicate more effectively with peers and adults, and improving articulation to be improve intelligibility.
By donating to this project, you will be helping so many of my students.
There are so many materials that I would like to enhance the services I deliver. I can use all of these materials with all of the age groups I see. This will help increase their exposure to the many aspects of communication. I greatly appreciate anything you want to contribute. Thank you!
