My students need privacy blinders to give them a sense of their own space in a room that has limited personal space. They also need pencil boxes to hold their own personal supplies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am fortunate to teach in a school that is very diverse, with diverse cultures and needs. It is a high-poverty school with almost 30% of our children receiving special needs services.
My curious students have a real love of learning!
They are inquisitive group who love to have hands-on learning and do best when they take ownership of that learning. Many of my children are impulsive and spontaneous. We work daily on being mindful of others and realizing how our words and behaviors effect people both positively and negatively.
My Project
I am so lucky to be teaching an dynamic, social group of children. However, as class sizes increase, creating personal space becomes more and more difficult. It is also more difficult for children to organize their own supplies, as it is easy to confuse supplies when desks are close together.
Every child deserves to have a personal space of his/her own.
Privacy blinders will allow children to have a space where they can focus on their own task without interruption or distractions. These dividers will help children complete work with better focus and being mindful of their own thoughts This year my children have struggled with keeping their own supplies organized, as they are seated close together. The pencil boxes will help alleviate some of the anxiety that develops when they cannot find their materials.
