My 5th-grade students are enthusiastic, engaged, compassionate, and motivated! Each day, my students discuss positive affirmations and quotes during our morning meetings that help them strive to do their best at school and in life. These conversations enable us to work together to support an active community that comes along to embark on discoveries around the world. We also read rich literature that teaches us about cultures outside our classroom and across the globe.
Each year my 5th graders, eagerly take on several student-centered place-based learning opportunities where my students apply their learning using real-world skills, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to engage in service-learning or produce a tangible product.
My Project
As a classroom teacher to these amazing 5th graders, it's important to me that my students understand that the classroom is "their" room. During the year, they will have voice and decision-making abilities as to what works with the layout, design, and functionality.
Whereas, my role as the facilitator and teacher in the room, is to create an environment that is functional for all abilities and needs and suitable for all learning styles.
Therefore, I would like to be able to supply these 5th graders with the tools to be able to enjoy their learning environment fully.
I would like my students to have access to furniture and furnishings that are cozy, not all uniform in size, and can accommodate a variety of needs so that my students can read and work to the best of their abilities.
