This year is my 23rd year in education. It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of western North Carolina. My school is pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with around 550 students. Many of my students walk or bike to school. Living in a walkable community is so much fun for them!
My students attend an an A+ Arts Integration school where the arts are seamlessly infused in teaching and learning.
The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student.
The average class size is approximately twenty students and we celebrate our multi-cultural uniqueness and learning diversity. This year we added several classrooms and have seen a large increase in student enrollment. It makes perfect sense to me as we are the best school!
This project is an ongoing showing of love and literacy. It has taken off like wildfire at every school I have been assigned. Last school year I moved schools mid-year and I was once again shown how students love to have books of their own. They love to read to their siblings and families. These precious moments are priceless.
We are requesting a selection of books to be ordered through Scholastic.
I am fortunate enough to stay at this great school for the upcoming school year. We are requesting celebration books to give out to our PreK students. Our school is fortunate enough to have a PreK and we don't want our littlest fans to be left out of the book fun! Students will be able to choose books and take them home and keep them! We will choose books with a variety of genres like math, women in science, minorities, and diversity on various reading levels so the students can all find a book (or two) that they want to share.
"Books are not made for furniture, but there is nothing else that so beautifully furnishes a house." ~Henry Ward Beecher
